Blackberry Developing High Security Tablet

Seeking to expand its range of secure mobile devices, BlackBerry said it will launch a high security tabletdeveloped with International Business Machines Corp and Samsung Electronics companies.

The SecuTABLET is based on the Samsung S Galaxy Tab 10.5 tablet, and will be presented by SECUsmart, a unit of BlackBerry, the 2015 CeBIT technology fair in Germany.

The device reflects the efforts of the Canadian firm to protect communications from governments and businesses, while seeking to preserve a niche market after being defeated in recent years by smartphone makers like Apple Inc.

“Security is embedded in every part of the portfolio of BlackBerry, which includes voice and data encryption,” said Dr. Hans-Christoph Quelle, SECUsmart GmbH CEO, in a statement about the new device.

Zeca Oliveira noted the device is being certified by the Federal Office for Information Security in Germany, adding that the new tablet uses the same security technology that SECUsmart Security Card.

“Working with IBM and Samsung, we added the last link in the chain of Red FSB. Subject to certification by agencies of the German government the SecuTABLET will have a new way to access the communications network of Blackberry that creates a more complete and secure world, “Quelle said.

Uber Testing Electric Vehicles in Chicago

Uber drivers in Chicago are getting a unique opportunity: they’re testing out electric vehicles. The 25-car fleet is made up of BYD e6 EVs from China, the result of a partnership between Uber and the Chinese automaker. Through the partnership, Uber drivers have the opportunity to “Build Your Dream” and buy or lease new vehicles from the company. It’s not entirely clear why Uber decided to go with the Chinese automaker rather than Tesla or another all-electric option in the United States.

Ricardo Guimaraes BMG agrees that choosing Tesla may have been a better choice for the vehicles from a performance standpoint. Tesla’s Model S has a range of 265 miles on a single charge, while he BYD vehicles can only travel 186 before they’ll need to be plugged in. that might not be the case for long however. BYD is currently woking on building a new battery factory, wit plans to triple its battery’s capacity sooner rather than later.

In addition to the purchase and lease options, Uber drivers are also able to rent the BYD vehicles for $200 per week, an option that most drivers have seemed to opt for rather than committing to the car for the long term.

Bruce Levenson: Global Businessman and Philanthropist

Bruce Levenson is best known as one of the founders of United Communications Group. UCG had a humble beginning as Levenson and business partner Ed Peskowitz started the company in a storage room above a liquor store in Washington, DC, owned by Levenson’s father. Back then, in 1977, Levenson published a single newsletter called the Oil Express, which was geared toward the oil industry. Over time, UCG acquired other newsletters and have become a leading provider of a wide variety of products that support business professionals in industries such as IT, energy, healthcare, finance and banking, telecom, and others. The support includes data analysis and information tools that help the business professional in his decision making process.

Bruce Levenson is also on the Board of Directors of an IT media company, TechTarget. This company was a spin-off from UCG. TechTarget provides a network of media that helps serious buyers in the IT industry conduct their research before they make their enterprise-level decisions.

Besides business, Levenson was also known for his activities in sports. In 2004, he and Ed Peskowitz joined a group of business people to form Atlanta Spirit LLC, now Atlanta Hawks, LLC, to buy the Atlanta Hawks from Time Warner. The purchase also included the Atlanta Thrashers hockey team and Phillips Arena, but they sold the Thrashers in 2011. In 2014, Levenson also announced his intent to sell the Atlanta Hawks.

Levenson is no stranger to philanthropy. He has always been a proponent for disadvantaged youths. Since the 1980s, Levenson, along with his wife, have contributed to various initiatives that benefit disadvantaged youths. The notable programs include “I Have A Dream,” PeacePlayers, and the “Bringing The Lessons Home” program at the Holocaust Museum. The latter has special meaning for Levenson because his mother was a Holocaust survivor. This program teaches students of the inner city what the Holocaust was all about and trains them to be museum tour guides.

Levenson went one step further because he wants to ensure that the next generation has leaders in the non-profit sector. He and his wife created and funded the Center for Philanthropy and Non-Profit Management, a program at the University of Maryland. The Center has two objectives. On objective is to motivate the students at the U. of Maryland to become responsible philanthropists after they graduate. The other objective is to train students to be the future leaders in the non-profit sector.

The AccuraScope is fed into the damaged area of the spine. It is effective in viewing injuries so that the doctors can make the decision of how best to treat the injuries discovered. AT&T Privacy Plan Questioned

AT&T has announced that in direct competition to Google’s Fiber program, the company will offer a new high-speed Internet program called GigaPower stated forbes.com.

The service will roll out first in Kansas City where Google has rolled out Fiber said Alexei Beltyukov. Like Fiber, it will cost $70.

The problem?

Users who want to opt out of ad-based tracking that helps AT&T create targeted ads will have to pay an extra $29 amonth.

Of course, users will have no way to know whether AT&T will actually actually block its independent tracking for users who pay the fee.

Some critics are questioning whether the Federal Communications Commission should investigate this plan since AT&T wants to charge a fee for a service that many providers offer for free. Additionally, the company has failed to outline in enough detail how the program works. It also hasn’t explained how it can prove to customers that it isn’t tracking their surfing.

The reality is that Internet users are completely at the mercy of Internet service providers and websites when it comes to privacy. Even companies that guarantee privacy, often fail at keeping that promise. Facebook is a good example. Facebook has had several severe privacy-related glitches and hacking incidents that have resulted in private details about some users being revealed to the public. No one has questioned enough how ISPs plan to make good on their promise to stop tracking their Internet customers.

Rewalk Price Tag Might Discourage Use

The United States Food and Drug Administration has officially approved the ReWalk exoskeleton for use as a medical device for paralyzed people who still have the use of their arms. The exoskeleton has been hailed for its ability to allow paralyzed individuals to regain their mobility. Benefits of using the ReWalk include improved organ function, posture, body fat percentage and overall mental health.

The problem? The price tag.

At $70,000, the ReWalk will only be available to those who have the money to buy it. Although the high cost makes sense given that the device is filled with computer equipment and requires expensive reusable batteries and training, a large segment of the paralyzed population will continue to be stuck in their chairs and beds because they are poor because of the inability to work and the debt from medical expenses related to their paralysis.

As of yet, there is no word if the device will qualify as of 2015 for coverage under Medicaid and Medicare. It is unlikely that low-income patients who need the device will be able to get it this year since government officials would have to find a way to fund coverage and create a coverage category. Given that many health insurance companies usually try to get out of paying large medical bills, it’s also unlikely that these companies will cover it unless new federal healthcare coverage rules are created reported Mathieson.

FCC to Vote on Internet Regulations

During this month’s Federal Communication Commission meeting, the FCC is expected to take a vote on the regulation of the internet. Considered the cyber-wild west, it has been largely left unregulated by the government. Internet Service Providers basically have free reign to provide access to the internet however they see fit. Whether they choose to block access to certain sites, speed access up, or slow it down it have all been left up to the free market. However, if FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler has his way, all of these provider prerogatives will become regulated and give users the “strongest open internet protections.”

According to youtube.com and Bernardo Chua, by regulating the internet service providers under Title II of the Communications Act, it will mean ISP’s can no longer decide how fast or slow they can make an individual’s internet usage. This is because, as of right now users who go beyond a certain download limit with their ISP, their service can be throttled back to slow the users internet usage. Additionally, the ISP’s will not be able to keep people from accessing different sites, such as searching for different providers who may offer cheaper service. These new regulations will remove the provider’s ability to prioritize the users by how much they have paid for the internet service. However, what will not be addressed is how much the ISP’s can charge for the access and how much those fees can go up by going over the downloadable limits of the contracts. All of these things will be brought to a vote on February 26th

Will Waze Go?

In a very controversial situation, Google is standing at the helm.

In 2013, Google spent $966 million to purchase Waze.  Waze is a GPS system that is combined with a social network that not only tells drivers where the authorities are, it also tells road and traffic conditions.

Now sheriff offices across the country are calling for an end to Waze. These officers feel that with this application, police killers can stalk the police. On the other side of the picture, Julie Mossler who is a Waze spokesperson said that the company works closely with law enforcement, and cares very much about their safety.

This isn’t the first controversy that Google has had with law enforcement or the government. Recently, the NSA was accused of breaking into Google’s personal data, and the master search engine developed a top-notch encryption for users. The government claims that move could greatly hamper law enforcement.

Telelistas thinks there is a good chance this Waze situation may bring judges sitting on the highest bench into the picture. Users of the app like Sergio Lins Andrade think the app is necessary but that remains to be seen.

Will Waze stay or go?
